      será reducida a vapor”.

No dio resultado.

Enseñarles a hacerse preguntas, no a responderlas.

Technique and Poetry. The questions from Amereida (english version)

Introduction

This paper analyzes the relationship between art and poetry raised in the second volume of the poem Amereida.

Amereida is the meeting of the Latin word Aeneid and the word America; It is the Aeneid of America. It is an epic poem written by several writers, poets, painters, sculptors, artists and architects whose first volume was published in 1967, and sings the appearance of America as a present or gift. It proposes an original vision to be American. An essential component of this poem is called the travesía of Amereida performed in 1965. It was a poetic journey between Tierra del Fuego and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. On this trip, which toured the continent, poetic and artistic events were made celebrating and building small works.

The second volume of the poem was published in 1986 and is a sort of poetic record of that first voyage. In fact it includes the travel blog. In this second volume arises, poetically, a set of questions, reflections and indications regarding the technical, written in verse and prose. This paper will analyze this set or problematic from a fable that appears on page 79. The instructions that come directly from a poem are always encrypted and are slated to be open to different interpretations. Therefore we will not decipher it once and for all, but to offer one reading of many possible. In fact, the poem does not explain the moral of the fable, but there is a open field where art and poetry can dialogue; or even get to show how art and poetry are closely related.

Before attending the fable itself should be specified a view with which to approach the art and poetry. For poetry the content of the second volume of the poem Amereida will be observed. For technical certain indications of two philosophers of the twentieth century will be addressed; Heidegger and Ortega y Gasset. For example the German regarding the technique (Heidegger "Traditional Language And Technical Language"):

The manufacture and produce, understood as by the Greeks, is not so much tune, manipulate and operate, but what our German word herstellen and the Latin term producere literally say: producere, that is, take and bring to the light something that was not there before like this.

Amereida, in his first volume, poetry wonders: "Who but she says a source for only poetically it appears? Guided in principle by these simple explanations we can meet the fable. Then we will raise a certain poetic questions. These are not exposed demanding a final and definitive answer; they sing their questions remain as such, always thrown unknown openings through which we try to reach the new fields for mankind.

The Fable

The fable of page 79 of volume II of Amereida (various authors, 1986) says:

But there was once a town in the mountains
that had acquired by long practice an almost full
mastery over everything that had to do with the
      fire.
They feed in their caves huge braziers, in which they sacrificed young children
The height of the flames was so great
      that devour everything

The masters of the fire tip out, for derision, large
amounts of water on the flames and laughing
to see it disappear in a moment, everything in
      steam.
However, one day came from the plain
messengers to seek help. They announced that the Deluge
had begun and that the sea invaded their land.
Fire Masters answered: Why do you have
fear? Don´t you know that fire is master of all? Them
They ordered the foreigners to built
huge chariots to place there the fire
to bring it down to the plain. - "There - they added -
we will oppose our fire to the water sea
and it will be reduced to steam.

Soon were ready the chariots. They set
      on the way

Meanwhile Noah worked on the Ark

This fable, as all has a moral. What is the difference, from the point of view of the art, between the Ark and fire chariots? The Ark uses gently the forces of nature. Chariots of fire fights against nature. The difference is radical.

As the ark, every boat is a technical object, chariots of fire also. But between them there is a simple but essential difference. Chariots of fire are using brute force against brute force; are the attempt to dominate, by force, the powers of nature; the attempt to subdue the earth, through the exercise of war, to human enterprises. This is the same as happens today with the most sophisticated spacecraft, which must overcome the force of gravity with chariots of fire: tons of fuel burning so that the rockets can leave the atmosphere. Once in space, these ships behave differently; as a boat [1] . A boat has not the desire to conquer nature but translating it creatively. Floatage is an ingenious quality using pressure, which is the resident force in the seas (and in all fluids), so te ocean should not be defeated but on the contrary, that is precisely what allows the boat to float. It is the same as a spacecraft, once it has left the Earth's atmosphere, using the gravitational pull of other celestial bodies to propel; not try to defeat it [2] . A boat and a spaceship, as technical objects, are the practice of imagination so that the interaction between the human enterprise and nature turns out to be a relationship of mutual wonder.

A glider plane operates in the same way. All attempts to fly by moving the wings as the birds were a failure, which is like a ship, to float and sail, had to push off with fins like a fish. To fly, man does not builds flapping wings with feathers like birds, but translates -by wit or an ambush- the forces operating on the flight (pressure for example) and develops fixed-wing propeller with a specific geometry, so can use gently -never defeating- the pressure in fluids.

The differences between these technical methods not only show that an invention outperforms another,it is not about one such attempt was less fortunate than such other, or that was inefficient to solve this problem. The difference is in the foundation of the question that arises from an inner yearning and above it. If the desire is to fly we can ask the question how to fly? Or as in the case of the fable how to survive the flood? But these questions, if we try to respond trough a mere practical solution probably we get technical productions like chariots of fire or beating wings flying machines. The real issue is the deep admiration for the flight or floating. That is the construction of a real compliment to the forces of nature and not submission. The difference is a praised universe instead of a defeated universe. Poetry is a peculiar way of praise. This difference is the essence of true innovation. The technique, according to Ortega y Gasset is "the opposite of the adaptation of the individual to the environment, since it is the adaptation of environment to people" (Ortega y Gasset, José 1939-1961). Today humanity misunderstands this statement as carry out the complete submission of nature-Earth to human endeavors.

Technology and production

In many areas of current technology it tends toward the task of the total submission of Earth human tasks or business:

"Technological progress (only real manifestation of progress) is the name of the myth that society is represented and ethically legitimizes its evolution from a teleological perspective, that is of a religious nature. With "progress" refers to an increase of dominion over nature is made; growth is creating new systems of ideological and cultural values which share dysfunction remains stable (Norberto Chaves 2001). " Our world is governed generally oriented economic-philosophical level -and the masters of fire. It is not only the development of machines, but companies whose areas are predominated with a sense of knowledge and truth began to germinate about 500 years ago and finished off during the industrial revolution. "In addition, education should discipline the workforce for the precise fulfillment of the tasks that form the basis of industrial production. It is not creativity or personal initiative which rewards in the production line, but the exact exercise of the activities of the job "(Brunner). Post-industrial societies of the XXI century keep and MAXIMISING idea is basically that reality is constructed as an immense machine composed almost endless parties, grouped or combined form a whole. This mechanical design allows for a thought logically ordering factors, without contradiction, separating them according to formulas and procedures to continually regroup. It is the world of causality, where interest phenomena as their measurements and calculations, no longer in their essence. Phenomena and the relationships between these are measured and calculated by rational mathematical processes, guided by the economy, comprising discarding visions reality more comprehensive ways. is useful only that which leads to the production, exploitation of resources, the management of energy and economic benefits. Hence, these companies can not understand or incorporate the role of the arts or artists; leisure is considered unproductive. The sciences are tolerated only to the extent that their investigations arising patents and practical inventions, although science, like art, necessarily initiated by disinterested contemplation: the "study is beginning to gather, with a new perspective different fields physical, biological and behavioral, and even the arts and humanities "(Gell-Mann, M .; García, A .; Pastor, R. 1995) sciences. Those engaged in the real sciences today know that their work is the same as that of the arts; the search for the unknown; that "scientific discovery is more akin to what is generally believed a work of art" (Crick). The Nobel Prize Edgar O. Wilson also proposes that "science, as defined by generally [Bacon], should be poetry, and poetry, science. This, at least, has a pleasantly modern sound "(Wilson), and recommends poets" colonize science "(Wilson, Hass and Briccetti).

PLANNING

Amereida proposes that "our modern age today tops in the perfection of his calculations" (various authors). The way in which a society is sustained and perpetuated is through the perfection of calculation; what today it is called planning. There is no company that can afford to do without planning. Even marriages should calculate the amount and timing of arrival of children through family planning. Education is planned to long term; since children enter kindergartens families and society bet them all to the future: At school children should study for college entrance; there young people should obtain skills to be professional and have a good situation; then adults must work to support a family. Only when people retire seems that they can devote themselves to this, to do what they want (although today the knowledge society considers education as an endless continuum). That is, "for planning, calculation extends to what was hitherto the incalculable par excellence: the future" (ibid).

And at the same time left in the future, which is itself unexpected, just the possibility of upsetting the present planning; "Rob the future character of mystery" (ibid). This means that the West feels and sees the future as a threat; "But planning does nothing but accentuate the menacing character of the future" (ibid). Our present time is divided into two moments or forms: a) A reality determined by universal and global calculations b) A threat to this reality; "Time of our time is this: on the one hand, particular factor or special coordinate in a universal calculation; secondly, this calculation threat ". Y is frightening to live pending a threat. "At this time, the man can only live in transit" (ibid); for indifferent to the past, the present and the future side and on the other side terrified "with only the looming possibility of breaking this indifference" (ibid).

To modify this present order of life requires double mutilation break this time; "Such is the precondition for any change of life".

How do you do this?

THE ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

The technique seems to go from one side to the other poetry. The current tradition tends to consider that both are opposed as to their usefulness in building the world. It is difficult to suggest to a Council of Ministers that a productive nation requires both scientific and technical as poets or artists. Probably reasonable speed up the creation of new technique from certain specific toils and indeed necessary, but a nation full of technicians or technologists has absolutely assured the creation or development of more or better true technique.

The relationship of the art of poetry is a matter of utmost importance because, in fact, all the offices have the same level of intimacy with the technique, despite all appearances. And poetry their affairs is played in the background of the opportunities of any trade being what it is. "The poetic language comes in the hands of a previously unsuspected primacy Heidegger: it is nothing less than foundation of being, Stiftung des Seins" (Barceló 2009). Moreover, as well as "poetically man dwells on this earth" as Hölderlin (Heidegger "Poetically man dwells"), where "dwell poetically means to be in the presence of the gods and be touched by the close essence of things" ( Heidegger Art and Poetry) is also part of the essence of man's relationship with the art and it is essential that such a relationship is properly stated for understanding our own projects in the construction of our day, of our lives. In sum, the world.

Heidegger insists that something, in this case the art is not the same as its essence. This "take and bring forth something that was not there before" starts from the first man on earth. That is, the technique lies in man and is its inherent or essential skill, although not exclusive to our species. First man sought certain inventions to make your living more comfortable than it presented itself in the wild reality, this is to set up a situation that would allow him to be in nature with some slack. "The man fired a new type of making is to produce what was not there in nature, it is not that at all, it is not when needed" (Ortega y Gasset, José 1939-1961). inventions is called here to the domestication of animals, the use of fire or the use of agriculture. Not least the fact that these 'inventions' are also often called 'discoveries'. This is because the development of the technique does not respond solely to the concerted use of intellectual or physical abilities of one or more individuals, but also at random, a vigil on observation and the use of the gifts that nature offers. Not answer technical solely to the need to overcome the basic problems of life such as food, shelter, etc., because at first there was also music, painting, religious rituals, poetic celebration of art, which are all technical tasks. In fact the basic needs are constantly transformed and vary to such an extent that certain enormous technical progress of some civilizations and cultures were abandoned and disappeared not because they were of little value, but because they had no interest (quote). Human life, then, is a great invention and not merely a response to external conditions or environmental stimuli. And the very bottom of this invention is that it is an 'unnatural' response. As we saw, the technique is "the opposite of adaptation of the individual to the environment, since it is the adaptation of means to subject". This assumes that human technical tasks can not define or establish programs or horizons of your own stuff. The ultimate purpose intended any technique can not be fixed by itself, but by previous something and definitely deeper into the essence of man. This is poetry. Think what the technique aims to do is allow ourselves more time it is all true exactly, but we also know that all the great inventions that allow saving time finally result in that spare time is not used for anything other than more technical tasks and less free time. This is so because the great human invention of the human itself is a consequence of what Ortega y Gasset called "the original desire". "There is therefore a pre-technical invention, the invention par excellence, which is the original desire" (Ortega y Gasset 1939-1961). Men tend to be human, lean toward the essential being that is in each of them and when that desire is confused or does not know what it is, the technique is lost without knowing who to serve. In a society where men can not, in the words of the Spanish philosopher, "inventing the story of their own lives" (p. 49), the technique loses its orientation. Since the technique itself does not know discern between the infinite range of possibilities, what are the things that should invent are. "From pure full of possibilities, the technique is mere hollow shape like the formalist logic; is unable to determine the content of life "(p. 84). Only in a society in which intelligence serves creative imagination, you can properly constituted technical capacity. This is a fundamental point, especially when thinking about the paradigms of our education systems (especially those systems and parameters that are intended to prove the quality of our education). Needless to say about these issues were raised by Ortega y Gasset over seventy years ago, when he still was not involved computer or digital being.

The poem, between pages 77 and 89, as we have seen, a question that concerns the foundation of any creative work is done: "Is the technique can be founder" Perhaps, before should ask what things are likely to be founded? There are, for example, cities that have existed from requirements of companies of a technical nature, such as mining, so you could say, in the first instance, which may dwelling men be determined or caused by technical . The enclaves such as oil of Cerro Sombrero mentioned in Amereida, or the city of Humberstone saltpeter miner or Sewell, to name Chilean cases, were born and to maintain some operating company, companies technical nature. But all these places that claim to be cities, disappear and turn into ghost towns as the reservoir is depleted. That is, they are human settlements that depend on the site and the company that exploits. There all trades, all activities, welfare or injury, health and recreation, "everything is provided by the" company ". School, hospital. The house, food, fun, work, salary, savings "(ibid). Are settlements where there is no entertainment, only business. There is a multiplicity of trades but one dedication. This in the field of dwelling man called camp and not a city; "So never be a camp city. The characteristic of it is the multiplicity, the ordinary to the extraordinary, the possibility of instability. Then, from this point of view, the technique can not generate the dwelling of men, at least not live fully. Traspolar possible conclusion to the possibility of all creation, that is, to conclude that the technique can not, by itself, be creative.

It is necessary, at this point, clarify before founding what exactly? The poem suggests: "Fundar is confused with the earth." But what it is is confused? "Is taking the fundamental tone of that with which one is confused or otherwise transform the land into something that is confused with one?" Then, even before the poem then wants "to know what the Earth." One possible answer is the Earth is a place.

THE PLACE

Many ancient civilizations in their founding myths, emigrating religiously; the discovery of places to live was divine; "The discovery of the place was always divine" (ibid): Aeneas leaving Troy and arriving at Lazio; Aztec priests watching the eagle and the snake to found Tenochtitlan, Moses wandering in the desert to the Promised Land, etc. But today it is "technically emigrates" (ibid): "Everyone can go to work anywhere, whether within a country or across the surface of the globe"; "There is emigrating from a site that no longer offers living to one that can offer them" (Ibid). Economic issues are that, within labor markets (where humans are not people but resources) that determine the movement of people from one place to another; as the great masses of people fleeing poverty in the countries of the Third World towards becoming developed nations borders in areas of permanent conflict. In this sense what is or what is the essence of a place? the poem has a proposition: "Place is where there encounter. Any encounter. Bon jour Monsieur Courbet is a Place. "

That said, and holding it for a moment suspended,

It is the technical relationship with the land to every encounter (ie, to the extent that the technique is nothing more than a =-technical object land while exploitable), therefore to every place; or, finding Earth as an object of exploitation does not transform technique all meeting in one type of encounter, therefore every possible variety of locations in one place? It is not a simple question.

TIME AS A RESULT

In "Science and Technology" the German philosopher Martin Heidegger concludes, among other things, and after long meditation, the essence of the technique is ambiguous and observe that essence from close can lead to the truth. But Heidegger also sees that the current way in which we relate to the technique presents a danger to the human. And a greater danger, those who can come to destroy us entirely (Heidegger Science and Technology). and then just picks up at this time to poetry. Specifically the verses of Hölderlin "where the danger is also the savior is born" and "poetically man dwells on this earth" (Heidegger 1977) p. 20). It happens that "the essence of the technique is not technical. Reflection on technique and decisive opposed to it, must take place in an area which, on the one hand, is related to the essence of the art and on the other, it is nevertheless fundamentally different. Such is the art field "(Heidegger 1984) pp 106-107). That is, gives the final solution of all the problems to the poetic word and from there to art. But it says more, does not explain, at least not in this text, the practical step which could understand, or some sort of procedure or perhaps some explanation, to further understanding. Why are you doing this ?, what can make poetry or poets or artists face this threat?

There were artistic movements in the early twentieth century that sought to change the world through politics; Communists became the Surrealists, the Futurists entered fascism, etc. He did not work. It has never been successful if we understand direct consequences result, substantive and long-term committed poetry. The story of myths, poets granted by the Greek muses tends toward anything other than the compromise. No matter whether the myth is true or false because it is released to the original source of reality, to the foundation of the world and therefore to its becoming (quote from Godo, there must be absolutely modern). Poetry operates on the destination, but not the way he wanted politics or war or the economy. Amereida then insists "What is the condition so that the Earth can find us as such a place? What you should have-place for such a meeting possible? "(Ibid). An output is "breaking the double mutilation of time" mentioned above. And that is achieved, according to the poem, as follows: "Time must be apprehended as a result" (ibid).

What is a fruit? It is a food, protein and vitamins, a product, a natural thing, such as an apple. This is; an apple, what do you do with it? It eats. And in this he is involved eating taste, smell, touch, sight, hearing, etc. Eat a good apple is a sensory experience that is sensual and erotic. Nothing eats intellectually but with all the possibilities of the body. Well, so it could be the process of apprehending reality. Children learn the reality taking everything into their mouths because "flavor is to know" because literally eat it and they are transformed. What we eat actually transforms us through a biological process and reality could come to constitute the same way. Perhaps it is not true that the truth is discovered through an intellective process by which we separate subject or object and observer and observed (quantum mechanics already clarified this point). Our knowledge begins when what we observe is transformed in the process of observation. "Western culture, projecting Aristotelian philosophy, has tried sensory reality as if it were something external and independent living being," but "what a human known sensory reality is not something objective that is defined externally" (Ruiz (Ruiz Barría 2008) p. 199-214).

A time apprehended as the result is a time that will not leak to death, as explained by Baudelaire: "Understand this well ... The present time is reduced to a mathematical point, and this mathematical point perishes a thousand times before we were able to assert their birth. In this everything it is finite, and that same finite is infinite in the speed of their flight toward death. But in God there is nothing finite; in God there is nothing transitory; in God there is nothing that tends to death "(Baudelaire).

A present as CS Lewis tells us in the letter XV of his "The Screwtape Letters": "Humans live in time but our Enemy destines them to eternity. He will, therefore, I think, that serve mainly to two things: to eternity itself and that point of time called the present. Because this is the point where time coincides with eternity "(Lewis).

Is a time where the future is not presented as a threat. And it's an even fruit etimológicamente- shines as such when it serves more for gift as food. A given time, as the seed is a living sign that keeps and cares secretly wonder of creation, because through a maturing and flowering longer perishes. A time as a child -the result of love that embodies the rebirth through death to restart the cycle of life.

"The time of myth, like the religious festival, or children's stories, no dates," there was a time ... "," In the days when animals spoke ... "," In the beginning ... "And beginning this year, which is not such nor the day tal- contains all the principles and leads us into living time where everything really begins every moment. By virtue of the rite, which conducts and plays the mythic narrative, poetry and fairy tale, the man accesses a world where opposites merge (Peace).

CONCLUSION

Today it is required that countries like ours start spending a higher percentage of its GDP on research as the only possible path to the goal of development, the model are the developed nations of the northern hemisphere. a research paradigm for science and technology is also copied then. This is the same supported by the West for more than 500 years ago, and at this point is decidedly incomplete, if not wrong. This paradigm ranks first science-in the departure-and then to technology in the next step towards the industrial, economic, material and even human development. Thus it requires both academics and universities traveling on this road which supposedly reach to beat nature. Scientific research behave with the arrogance of the masters of the fire. If a university is prepared in knowledge of latest technology it will be irretrievably lost much sooner rather than later. Lie to young people who promise them a successful career based on the use and learning the latest technology tools. In fact they lie who offer a 'career' rather than a life of its own motion. At first education it is preferable to learn the essential basics of the art technology; the principles of nature that scientific experimental procedure. In short, we must teach children and young people to admire reality, nature. Teach them to ask questions, not answer them. All this for a people can effectively generate true technique and from there new technology. The arts are not only essentially prepared to carry out this kind of teaching but its essence empowers them to generate precisely those essential questions, no matter addressed to the person or persons. It is that each profession has an 'artistic' training, understood as the ability to create, to make it appear, to bring novelty from where there was nothing. This is a training that will allow them to young people and future officiating be consistent with their own interests, which will change over time. Poetry is not a discipline or an art, but rather the first course from which to begin to open up the world. The poetic word is located just at a point of reality from where it is possible to start not only understand but also to create it. Experience the epic poetry tells the man, whatever his profession, a way of relating to art. Entirely creative and effective way, including practical and useful. The relationship between art and poetry is not based on romantic or superfluous ideas, but this relationship is deeply fruitful and even productive. In terms of results, our technical work will be better only to the extent that we know hear the poetic song that calls us toward creating a world.
